Begonia incarnata - Metallica (12cm pot)

Begonia incarnata, also known by the synonym Begonia metallica, is a shrubby species from southern Mexico.

It can grow to about 1.5 metres tall under ideal conditions, but usually remains smaller. The leaves are a strong glossy medium green from above with dark, sunken leaf veins. From below, the leaf veins are beautifully coloured red. The leaf margin is lobed and both the upper and lower side of the leaf are covered with short hairs. On the upper side the hairs are sparse, on the underside they are much denser. It is said that the leaves look like embossed silk.

The flowers are pink with red hairs on the buds and appear in summer and autumn. It is a low-maintenance species.

  • Light: Grows best in bright, indirect light.
  • Humidity: Prefers humid environments so will do best in a kitchen or bathroom. Best not to mist these plants as they don't like their leaves getting too wet.
  • Watering: They prefer moister soil. Water when top half inch or so soil dries out. Bottom water ideally as their leaves don't like to get too wet.
  • Temperature: Prefers warmer room temperatures.
  • Pets: Harmful if eaten. Keep out of reach.

Note: All our plants are unique, the plant you receive might not be identical to the one photographed but we're sure you're going to love it either way!
